Cat Tuesday
Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) with its traditions was brought to Louisiana by the French in the 1700s. As a Christian observance, it was marked by a day of frolicking and feasting in preparation for Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten season of fasting and abstinence. Of course, the fun-loving people of Louisiana expanded the celebration from one day to weeks, its date depending on Easter Sunday. Mardi Gras in New Orleans is a world famous period of celebration that has to be seen to be believed.
